Houston Rockets vs. Orlando Magic Showdown The Houston Rockets (39-25) and Orlando Magic (30-35) both need to gain momentum heading into the NBA playoffs. Both teams have underperformed in the second half of the season, so this game is a prime chance to gain momentum. This is their first game of the season, with the two teams having split their last three season series. Tip-off is at 8 PM ET.

Five Things to Know Before Rockets vs. Magic

  1. Orlando Magic’s Road Trip Challenge

The Orlando Magic started their pivotal five-game road trip with a statement win, shocking the Milwaukee Bucks 111-109 and ending a five-game losing streak. The victory was important as the Magic fought for playoff positioning in the Eastern Conference. They are currently in eighth place and trail the Atlanta Hawks by only 0.5 games for the seventh seed. A good performance on this road trip could go a long way in enhancing their chances for the playoffs.

  1. Houston Rockets’ Home Court Advantage in Playoffs

Only a month ago, the Houston Rockets were ranked second in the Western Conference table. But some kind of revival had them falling to fifth spot after losing 10 of their last 16 games. The Rockets have regained their footing since then with two consecutive victories against the New Orleans Pelicans, including a runaway 146-point effort in their latest game. Gaining home court advantage in the opening round is a primary concern for the Rockets as they move through the stretch run of the regular season.

  1. Paolo Banchiro’s Scorching Hot Form

Orlando’s rookie sensation, Paolo Banchiro, is in top shape. The first-time NBA All-Star has battled through initial setbacks following a strained back and has been a force to be reckoned with on the court. In his past 11 contests, Banchero is scoring an average of 28.3 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 4.5 assists. His impressive play will be vital for the Magic in hopes of a deep playoff push.

  1. Who will shine for the Rockets?

Houston is counting heavily on upstart Amen Thompson, who has been a starter-by-committee stud since being promoted to the opening lineup. Thompson is producing 16 points, 9.7 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 1.5 steals, and 1.5 blocks per game. But a bruised ankle suffered in the last game sidelined him in a walking boot and on crutches, leaving his chances for this contest in doubt.

With Thompson and Fred Van Vliet (ankle) out, the Rockets will look to Alpern Sengen to carry the offense. Sengen has been tremendous this season, putting up 19.3 points, 10.4 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and 1.2 steals per game. His well-rounded game will be essential for Houston as they attempt to hold their playoff spot.

  1. Recent head-to-head results work in favor of Houston.

Though the teams have split their last three season series, Houston has long dominated. The Rockets have taken 17 of their last 24 meetings against the Magic since 2013. The game will be important for both squads, with a rematch set for March 19 in Orlando.

Final Thoughts

With first-round playoff positioning at stake, both the Houston Rockets vs. Orlando Magic Showdown have to come prepared. Houston hopes to secure home court in the first round, while Orlando seeks to climb up the Eastern Conference standings. Featuring stars Paolo Banchero and Alperen Sengun, this battle is sure to be a high-scoring game.
